Jacob Tobey, the play-by-play announcer for the San Antonio Spurs, has been fired from his role following allegations of infidelity. The dismissal comes after a public social media post by Tobey's girlfriend, who accused him of cheating.
According to reports, Tobey's girlfriend posted on his social media account, stating, "This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her so feel free to continue following me if you really think I'm a good guy because I'm not. :)" Further posts reportedly included images of Tobey and another woman kissing. These posts were later deleted, and his social media accounts were made private.
Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd addressed the situation, suggesting Tobey should consider his legal options. "I did learn something new today, that you can get fired in America for cheating on your girlfriend," Cowherd commented on Thursday. "I had no idea that was legal. You can get fired in America for cheating on, not your wife, your girlfriend. Feels like he should hire an attorney. That is a crazy story."
Cowherd did not explicitly mention that the alleged infidelity involved the sister of a current Spurs player. The Daily Mail has reached out to the Spurs, Tobey, and his representatives for comment.
Tobey had been the play-by-play announcer for the Spurs since 2024. He had established a notable reputation in sports media, earning a spot on Front Office Sports' list of rising young broadcasters last year. Before joining the Spurs, Tobey worked at 9News in Denver and covered games for Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network. He took over the Spurs' lead announcing duties from Bill Land, who retired after the 2024-25 season following a 21-year tenure.
The San Antonio Spurs recently reached the NBA Finals, where they were defeated 4-1 by the New York Knicks. The team features promising young players, including Victor Wembanyama.
