Spike Lee Restrained After Confrontation With Fan at Yankees Game
The filmmaker reportedly became agitated when a fan asked him about Palestine while filming him.
Filmmaker Spike Lee was seen being restrained by a stadium staffer during an altercation with a fan at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday. The incident occurred in a dining area before the Yankees' playoff game against the Boston Red Sox.
A video of the confrontation, shared by sports talk show host Andy Slater, shows Lee shouting at an individual who appeared to be filming him. According to reports, the fan approached Lee while he was eating and asked him about Palestine.
"Why’d you come over to me?!" Lee could be heard saying in the video. A credentialed individual then intervened, telling the fan, "You gotta go, you gotta go."
Before the incident, Lee was reportedly in a good mood, posing for selfies with fans and making space for others to join him. He was pictured with actor Nick Turturro during the game, which the Yankees won 9-2, clinching their wild-card series.
This is not the first time Lee has drawn attention for his stance on Palestine. In February, he wore a Palestinian flag accessory during NBA All-Star Game weekend. He later explained on Instagram that the clothing was a symbol of his concern for Palestinian children and civilians and his belief in human dignity for all, stating it was not intended as a gesture of hostility towards Jewish people or support for violence.
