Spike Lee in Heated Altercation With Fan at Yankee Stadium
Filmmaker required restraint after being confronted by a spectator in the Legends Suite before a playoff game.
Filmmaker Spike Lee was involved in a heated confrontation with a fan at Yankee Stadium prior to Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. The incident occurred in the Legends Suite hospitality area.
Footage shared on social media depicted an agitated Lee, dressed in Yankees attire, shouting at an unidentified individual while being restrained by stadium staff. According to reports, the altercation began after a fan requesting a selfie asked Lee to say "F*** Palestine." Another eyewitness claimed the fan filmed Lee while he was eating and then asked about his stance on Palestine.
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for the Yankees and Lee for comment. Prior to the incident, Lee had reportedly been engaging positively with fans, posing for selfies and leaving seats open at his table.
Lee was in attendance for Game 1 on Tuesday, where the Yankees secured a 9-0 victory over the Red Sox. He posted a photo with his daughter, Satchel, at that game. He was seen watching Wednesday's game in his seat behind the home dugout.
This is not the first time Lee has made a public statement regarding Palestine. In February, he wore a sweater with a keffiyeh pattern and displayed Palestine flags on his bag at the NBA All-Star Game. At the time, Lee stated his attire was a symbol of his concern for Palestinian children and civilians and his belief in human dignity for all, asserting it was not intended as a gesture of hostility towards Jewish people or support for violence.
