Spike Lee Confronts Fan at Yankee Stadium
Director restrained after heated exchange with attendee over political comment.
Director Spike Lee was involved in a heated altercation with a fan at Yankee Stadium prior to Game 2 of the Yankees-Red Sox series on Wednesday night. The incident occurred in the Legends Suite dining area around 6:30 p.m. Lee, initially amiable and posing for photos, became agitated when a fan approached him with a political question.
According to reports, the fan asked Lee about Palestine and, in doing so, requested he say “F–k Palestine.” This prompted the 69-year-old filmmaker to confront the individual. Video footage of the incident shows Lee, wearing red Yankees attire, being held back by staff members as he shouts at the fan. "Why'd you come over to me?" Lee was heard asking.
Another person intervened, pointing to the individual and stating, "You've gotta go. You've gotta go." The fan who initiated the confrontation was subsequently removed from the premises.
Representatives for Spike Lee and the Yankees did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Lee is a well-known sports enthusiast and a regular presence at New York sporting events. He was seen in attendance on Tuesday night for Game 1 of the Yankees' wild-card series against the Red Sox, posting a photo with his daughter, Satchel. He also closely followed the New York Knicks during their recent championship run, attending games across the city.
