Reality television personality Spencer Pratt has stirred controversy by sharing a cartoon reenactment of the alleged child murders committed by Lindsay Clancy. Clancy, 36, is currently on trial for the January 2023 strangulation deaths of her three young children in Massachusetts.
Her defense team contends that she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis, while prosecutors argue the killings were premeditated. The ongoing trial has become a focal point of public debate, with some individuals expressing sympathy for Clancy's mental state and others, like Pratt, condemning her actions.
Pratt, 43, who previously made an unsuccessful bid for Los Angeles mayor, posted a Tim Burton-style animation on X, formerly Twitter. The cartoon reportedly depicts Clancy's alleged movements leading to the deaths of her children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months, before she attempted to end her own life by jumping from a window, an act that left her paralyzed.
Pratt criticized what he termed a "dystopian era" of social media, calling the internet "a mistake." He specifically targeted "women on TikTok who are supporting her" and those who have allegedly blamed Clancy's husband, Patrick Clancy. He described the case, including the graphic details of the children's deaths and Clancy's subsequent actions, in explicit terms, questioning the public's "outpouring of love for the mom who strangled her kids."
He further characterized online discourse surrounding the case as "pure insanity" and suggested that "woke social media" has contributed to a generation of "hollowed-out, depraved crazies." Pratt also made broader claims about societal changes, mentioning "women [who] have always been crazy" and stating that "the white male" has become "the ultimate Satan" in some online circles. He attributed these shifts, in part, to the COVID-19 pandemic and perceived untruths from politicians.
Pratt compared the public's reaction to Clancy to support shown for individuals facing charges in other high-profile cases. His video was met with praise from some of his followers, who commended him for sharing "harsh realities."
As of Monday, Day 19 of Clancy's trial was nearing its conclusion. Jurors are tasked with determining whether Clancy bears criminal responsibility for her children's deaths, considering testimony from individuals close to her and psychological evaluations.
