Former reality television personality Spencer Pratt has stated that alleged death threats and security concerns prompted him to stay at the luxury Hotel Bel-Air during his Los Angeles mayoral campaign. Pratt, who lost his Palisades home in a wildfire, explained his decision in a social media post.
Pratt had previously been criticized for his choice of accommodation after releasing a campaign video that showed him and his family at an Airstream trailer on the site of his former home. He insisted the trailer was a real, functional living space, detailing efforts to connect it to utilities.
According to Pratt, the threats and privacy invasions escalated due to his Republican affiliation. He claimed that individuals were entering his property and leaving notes with white powder. He also stated that a "lunatic" allegedly charged at his son. These incidents, he contended, necessitated hiring full-time security, including SWAT officers, for himself and his family.
Pratt elaborated that his property had become a "security nightmare." He chose the Hotel Bel-Air due to its perceived security features, including a fortified perimeter and a single point of entry. He argued that staying at the hotel was more cost-effective than booking multiple rooms at other establishments for security purposes, which he estimated would have cost an additional $3,000 per night.
Pratt, who did not win the primary election, has continued to comment on political matters and has suggested he possesses evidence that could impact the race, which he plans to release after voters have chosen their candidate. He has characterized the political climate as one of "communist violence" originating from the left.
