Spencer Pratt has publicly rejoiced over reports suggesting that Jimmy Kimmel's late-night talk show on ABC might conclude its run next year. Pratt, 43, took to the social media platform X on Tuesday to share his reaction, linking the potential end of Kimmel's show to California Governor Gavin Newsom's term in office.
"Newsom AND Kimmel gone next year?? Be still, my laughing heart! Things are looking UP fam," Pratt posted, referencing a Page Six report that stated Kimmel's contract was not being extended, which would mark the end of his show after 24 years. A spokesperson for ABC Entertainment, however, stated that the information was "inaccurate" and that reports about the show's future were "purely speculative."
Sources close to Kimmel's program told TMZ on Wednesday that staffers have been discussing potential future projects for the host, including separate shows or podcasts. The public exchange between Pratt and Kimmel stems from earlier this year when Pratt ran for mayor of Los Angeles.
During Pratt's mayoral campaign, Kimmel commented on the reality star's candidacy during a May 27 broadcast. Kimmel referenced Pratt's home being destroyed in the 2025 Pacific Palisades fires and his views on climate change. Kimmel noted that Pratt's complaints garnered attention because he is a "moderately famous person" and that while Pratt was angry about issues many people shared, he offered no solutions.
Following Pratt's elimination from the mayoral primary in June, Kimmel dedicated a segment on his June 9 broadcast to Pratt's vow to leave Los Angeles if he did not win. Kimmel presented Pratt with a U-Haul truck decorated with balloons and a cutout of Pratt, humorously offering assistance for his departure. "He clearly promised that if Karen Bass or Nithya Raman were elected mayor, he's going to move out of L.A.," Kimmel said on air. "He said he was done with L.A., and Spencer, if you're watching, we are so, so sorry to see you go."
Reactions to Pratt's recent social media post were mixed. Some users agreed with Pratt's criticism of Kimmel, with one commenter stating, "Thank God! @jimmykimmel is not talented nor funny! I’ve been saying that for years..way before he went woke and became a liberal talking head." Another user suggested that ABC "has any sense about them they would realize the majority can’t stand him and never watch him."
Others pushed back against Pratt's sentiments. One user commented, "Gloating about ... a successful twenty-something year contract coming to an end is not the flex you think it is." Another remarked, "Jimmy has the best life of anyone I know. And has been talking about retirement for 3 years now. If he is done, he is going out on his terms. The yapping grifter shouldn't have much to laugh about."
