Spencer Matthews has shared that he and his wife, Vogue Williams, are sleeping in separate rooms following the recent birth of their fourth child, Remy.
Matthews discussed the adjustments to their family life on his friend Jamie Laing's "Newly Parents" podcast. The couple, who also have children Theodore, eight, Gigi, six, and Otto, four, welcomed Remy earlier this month. Matthews described their current situation as a "lovely bubble" that feels "a bit disturbed" due to the demands of raising four young children while living in a rental property as they are building a new home.
"Vogue and I both in our own ways feel a bit lonely at the moment," Matthews stated, explaining that he misses one-on-one time with his wife. He elaborated that to manage sleep deprivation, he sleeps in the spare room. "For us both to have broken sleep is unhelpful to the rest of the family flow," he said.
Matthews noted that he and Williams might spend an hour together in the evenings after he returns from work, but fatigue often leads them to go to bed separately. "I don't really like sleeping separately to her. We like being next to each other," he admitted. "At the moment it feels a bit fractured. It sort of feels like you've fallen out because you're staying in [another] room."
Laing, who also has a young child, shared that he has experienced similar feelings of no longer being a couple since becoming a father.
Matthews reflected on their lives now compared to eight years ago when they had no children. "So your life, whether you like it or not, is all about the kids," he said. "Any freedom that you enjoy as a, dare I say, successful couple that should be able to just do stuff, you kind of can't."
He also contrasted modern parenting with his own childhood experience, where his father was often absent due to work. "My dad would just be working. He'd be gone when I woke up and he'd come home after I went to sleep," Matthews recalled. He added that while he has an excellent relationship with his father, he believes the roles of modern fathers, who are more involved in childcare, are different. "There's a lot of juggling now."
Matthews explained that he manages the mornings with their older children, including cooking breakfast and handling school runs, while Williams focuses on feeding the newborn and resting. He acknowledged that his wife "has got the hardest job," admitting he would struggle with having a baby constantly with her.
Just days after Remy's birth, Matthews participated in London's The Big Half half marathon. He described running as something that has transformed his life, providing structure and a sense of purpose outside of work and family.
