Spencer Matthews Admits Marriage to Vogue Williams Isn't 'Perfect'
The reality television personality confessed to having 'ups and downs' in his eight-year marriage.
Spencer Matthews has spoken candidly about the state of his eight-year marriage to Vogue Williams, admitting it is "far from perfect" and experiences its share of "ups and downs."
Matthews, 38, shared his perspective on Katherine Ryan's "What's My Age Again?" podcast, expressing that he believes he demonstrates more overt affection towards his wife than she reciprocates. "I think I love her more than she loves me," he stated, adding, "I think I'm more obvious with my love and affection for her."
He recounted a moment shortly after the birth of their fourth child, Remy Valentine, when Williams offered him compliments about his parenting. Matthews noted that while he appreciates these affirmations, they are not as frequent as his own expressions of appreciation towards her. "She was just saying lovely things about me being a great father," he recalled. "It's the type of stuff that I feel like I say to her a lot - doesn't always come back straight away."
Despite these observations, Matthews indicated he would not significantly alter their relationship dynamic. "There's not much about our relationship that I'd change," he said, while reiterating that "It's far from perfect. We have our ups and downs like any kind of married couple."
The couple, who met in 2017 and married in June 2018, also have three other children: Theodore, eight, Gigi, six, and Otto, four. Matthews acknowledged the challenges that come with raising a large family, particularly after the arrival of their newborn.
Last year, speculation arose regarding the state of their marriage, which Williams publicly refuted. She expressed hurt over rumors suggesting their St. Barts holiday was an attempt to mend their relationship.
More recently, Matthews discussed how their sleeping arrangements shifted following Remy's birth. He described a situation where Williams shared a room with the newborn, while he slept separately with their older sons. He explained on the "Newly Parents" podcast that this arrangement, intended to manage night feeds and disrupted sleep, left both feeling "a bit lonely" and the situation "a bit fractured."
Matthews also defended his commitment to endurance running, stating that his training regimen, which involves approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) per week, does not detract from his family time. He estimated his training takes about seven hours weekly, asserting, "I'm not losing time with my wife or kids to train for an hour a day."
He concluded by reaffirming his deep affection for Williams, stating, "I do love her enormously. Like, it's a special feeling."
