Jack Shepherd, who was convicted of the manslaughter of Charlotte Brown, has pleaded guilty to assaulting his new girlfriend with BBQ tongs and other acts of abuse. The 38-year-old admitted to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal damage, and intentional suffocation during a court appearance via video link on Tuesday.

Prosecutors stated that Shepherd burned his girlfriend's breast with BBQ tongs in June 2025. This incident followed earlier assaults in February 2025, when he punched her arms and thigh. The alleged abuse occurred between late 2024 and August 2025.

Shepherd began dating the woman, who is in her 50s, in August 2024, shortly after his automatic release on license in January 2024. The couple met in Ealing, West London, where Shepherd was renting a room in the same building as his girlfriend. According to prosecutors, within four months of their relationship, Shepherd began verbally abusing her, calling her an "old lady hag" and a "rat." He also reportedly banned her from having a personal trainer and would turn off the television when attractive male actors appeared.

Katherine Lloyd, prosecuting, told the court that Shepherd threatened his girlfriend by mentioning a friend named 'T' who was in prison for burning his grandmother alive.

Shepherd gained notoriety in 2018 when he was jailed for 10 years for the manslaughter of 24-year-old Charlotte Brown. Brown died when Shepherd's speedboat, which he dubbed "Captain Jack's" vessel, capsized on the River Thames in December 2015. The pair had met on Tinder and were on a first date when the defective boat overturned after hitting a submerged object. Shepherd was rescued, but Brown drowned.

Shepherd evaded his trial in 2018 by fleeing to Georgia. He was eventually extradited back to the UK to serve his sentence. He was released on license in January 2024 but faced recall to prison in September last year after accusations of violence towards a woman.

In addition to the manslaughter conviction, Shepherd had previously received a four-year sentence for a "glassing" attack on a barman in Devon. This assault occurred while he was on police bail for the death of Charlotte Brown.

Shepherd's sentencing for the assault charges is scheduled to take place at Isleworth Crown Court.
