Spanish Royals Host French President Macron for State Banquet

Queen Letizia of Spain joined King Felipe VI in hosting French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron for a state banquet at Madrid's Royal Palace on Tuesday evening. This event marks the first state visit by a French President to Spain since 2009, aimed at strengthening political, economic, and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Queen Letizia arrived in an elegant, floor-length Carolina Herrera gown in a shade described as Cloudy Blue, complemented by the historic Spanish Floral Tiara. The tiara, a gift to Queen Sofia in 1962, is a frequent choice for the Spanish Queen during state dinners and diplomatic events. She paired the gown with Martinelli Redondo 'Monroe' Metallic Leather Platform Sandals.

King Felipe wore a classic black suit with a white bow tie. Brigitte Macron opted for a white column dress with silver detailing, accessorized with a sparkle clutch and drop earrings. Both French President Macron and First Lady Macron wore insignia recognizing their respective honors: the Collar of the Order of Isabella the Catholic for President Macron, and the Grand Cross of the same order for Brigitte Macron.

During the banquet, President Macron delivered remarks that included a mention of King Felipe and Queen Letizia's daughter, Leonor, who has recently begun her university studies. The menu for the dinner was curated by Michelin-starred chef Joan Roca.

The two-day visit began earlier on Tuesday, with the Spanish King and Queen meeting the Macrons at the Royal Palace. The couples later shared a luncheon at the Palace of La Zarzuela, where the French and Spanish leaders also observed a battalion of the Royal Guard and a parade. Discussions between the leaders are expected to focus on the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty signed by Macron and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in January 2023.
