Spanish Police Uncover 'Torture Chamber' After Disturbance in Tourist Hotspot

Spanish police discovered a plastic-wrapped "torture chamber" and rescued two victims after a disturbance in Estepona, a popular tourist destination on the Costa del Sol. Eight suspected gang members have been taken into custody.

The incident began in the early hours of September 5 when a woman alerted emergency services, stating her partner had gone to a house for a "shady business" and instructed her to call police if he did not contact her within ten minutes. Responding officers encountered a naked, bloodied man fleeing a villa, shouting that he had been kidnapped and feared for his life.

Shortly after, several other individuals fled the house and the property, leading to a police pursuit. Officers entering the villa then heard a second victim crying for help. They located him bound to a chair in a room described as a purpose-built torture chamber, with plastic wrap covering the walls and floor. The room contained duct tape, zip ties, pliers, a hammer, and a pistol with a silencer.

Both rescued men, identified as Hamza, a Moroccan national, and Miguel Ángel, a Spanish native, had reportedly been kidnapped and tortured. Investigative sources suggest the victims may have been subjected to torture as retribution for failing to complete a task assigned by the gang.

The gang is believed to be a Serbian criminal organization involved in cocaine and hashish trafficking, as well as extortion. The seven suspects who fled the house are thought to be members of this group. Authorities are investigating the villa as an operational base for a drug-trafficking network extending across Andalusia and Spain's Levante region.

Following their arrest, the Serbian nationals reportedly threatened prison guards, demanding to share cells. One of the torture victims was also taken into custody on suspicion of gang-related crimes. Both rescued men have prior criminal records.
