Axel Rudakubana, currently serving a life sentence for the 2024 murder of three children at a Southport dance class, has been accused of assaulting prison officers at HMP Belmarsh. Appearing via video link from Broadmoor secure psychiatric hospital, the 20-year-old faces charges including attempted grievous bodily harm, two other assaults on prison officers, and possession of a weapon.

According to court reports, Rudakubana allegedly threw boiling water mixed with sugar at a prison officer through his cell door hatch on May 8 last year. The court heard that prompt medical attention prevented the officer from suffering lasting injury. Following this alleged incident, Rudakubana claimed that prison officers had been poisoning his food.

He is also accused of threatening a female officer on May 6, 2025, demanding a newspaper and then throwing an "unknown liquid" at her through his cell door hatch. On October 28 last year, Rudakubana allegedly punched a male prison officer in the face while the officer was attempting to ascertain if he had taken his medication.

The charge of possessing a weapon relates to sharpened stone shards reportedly prised from the floor of his cell and found attached to the underside of a shelving unit.

Rudakubana was convicted in July 2024 for the murder of nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar, six-year-old Bebe King, and seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe. He was also convicted of the attempted murder of eight other children and two adults during the same incident.

No indication was given on how Rudakubana intends to plead to the new charges. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on October 19.
