WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- South Florida's Palm Beach International Airport was officially renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport on Thursday, a change that took effect with the removal of old signage and the installation of new branding.
Airport officials noted that elements of the previous branding will coexist with the new for several weeks as the airport undergoes a full transformation. The airport's three-letter code will change from PBI to DJT on August 18.
"Trump Force One," a Boeing 757 owned by The Trump Organization, was the first aircraft to land at the airport under its new designation shortly after 5 a.m. Eric Trump, the former president's son, was among the passengers. The Trump family frequently uses the West Palm Beach airport when visiting Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence nearby. Earlier this year, a stretch of road leading from the airport to the estate was renamed Donald J. Trump Boulevard.
"There is no person who has done more for Florida and our country, and no one more deserving of this incredible honor," Eric Trump posted on X, formerly Twitter. "As a son, and someone who flies out of this airport nearly every day, I will forever be proud to see the initials ‘DJT’ on my boarding pass."
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation earlier this year that enabled the name change. The updates, including new signs and branding, are anticipated to cost up to $5.5 million.
In a separate event on Thursday morning in Dandridge, Tennessee, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, and Representative Tim Burchett attended a ceremony to rename the I-40 Bridge to the Donald J. Trump Bridge. Bessent stated before the ceremony that Trump was highly deserving of such an honor.
Donald Trump received 82% of the vote in Jefferson County, Tennessee, where Dandridge is located, in the 2024 general election.
