South Carolina Stuns No. 11 Tennessee on Walk-Off Field Goal

LaNorris Sellers orchestrated a dramatic comeback for South Carolina, culminating in a 27-24 victory over No. 11 Tennessee, sealed by a walk-off field goal. The pivotal moment came with under four minutes remaining when Tennessee failed to convert on fourth down near midfield. South Carolina then embarked on a game-tying drive that featured Sellers' acrobatic goal-line touchdown with just over a minute left on the clock.

Following Sellers' score, which leveled the game at 24-24, Tennessee fumbled the ball on their ensuing possession. South Carolina recovered the fumble at Tennessee's 34-yard line with 33 seconds remaining. This turnover set the stage for kicker Malik Orsan to convert a 48-yard field goal as time expired, securing the upset victory for the Gamecocks.

The win marked a significant achievement for South Carolina, which had a 1-28 record when trailing by seven or more points in the fourth quarter under head coach Shane Beamer. It also marked consecutive wins against ranked opponents for the Gamecocks, following a notable upset against Florida in Gainesville.

Sellers was a key offensive force for South Carolina, rushing for 96 yards on 18 carries and scoring two touchdowns. The Gamecocks had established an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but Tennessee managed to fight back into the game.

With this loss, Tennessee's potential for College Football Playoff contention is significantly diminished, especially with the first playoff rankings set to be released on November 3. Tennessee now holds a 6-2 record overall and a 3-2 record in conference play. South Carolina improves to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in SEC play. Both teams have challenging matchups ahead, with Tennessee facing No. 12 Kentucky and South Carolina hosting Oklahoma.
