South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers is foregoing traditional coursework in his final semester to complete his degree through an internship at The Par Tee Golf Center in West Columbia. Sellers is responsible for facility management tasks, including cutting grass and picking up golf balls.
Sellers has already completed all coursework required for his degree in sports and entertainment management. The internship is the final step in his academic career before graduating. He has previously completed an internship with 'Contract Construction,' which worked on upgrades for Williams-Brice Stadium.
This practice of athletes completing their degrees without attending classes in their final semester is not uncommon. For instance, Miami quarterback Carson Beck also did not attend classes during his final semester. Athletes are not simply handed degrees, and such internships offer practical experience alongside their academic requirements.
Sellers has expressed interest in future careers in engineering or construction, aiming to work on building projects after his football career concludes. He stated that he was involved in meetings regarding the stadium upgrades before many others were aware of the project's details.
