South Carolina Mom Charged with Attempted Murder After Allegedly Stabbing Children

A South Carolina mother faces attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing her two young children multiple times in their Spartanburg County home. The incident came to light when the 6-year-old boy called his grandmother on September 26, reporting that he and his 3-year-old sibling were hungry and their mother was not home.

Responding to the grandmother's call, authorities arrived at the residence around 2:30 p.m. and discovered the children with severe injuries, described by investigators as approximately 50 stab wounds between them. Both children were transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, then transferred to Prisma Health Children’s Hospital in Greenville. The 6-year-old is reportedly at risk of losing an arm due to his injuries, and both children were expected to undergo further surgeries.

Taylor Gosnell, 35, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Arrest warrants indicate that Gosnell allegedly used a baseball bat and a circular knife in the attack, with the intent to kill both children. The home was reportedly in disarray, with numerous items damaged or broken.

Gosnell returned to the residence while deputies were still on the scene. She was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for an evaluation due to behavior that raised concerns about her well-being. Authorities reported that she attempted to flee from the ambulance and had to be restrained. After being medically cleared, she was taken to the Spartanburg County Detention Facility.

Investigators attempted to interview Gosnell, but she requested an attorney. She was booked into the detention facility shortly before midnight on September 26 and was denied bond. The children have been placed in protective custody and remain hospitalized. The investigation is ongoing.
