South Carolina Defensive End Dylan Stewart Suspended Indefinitely After On-Field Meltdown

South Carolina defensive end Dylan Stewart has been suspended indefinitely by the team following a series of incidents during and after the Gamecocks' loss to Alabama. The suspension comes after Stewart, a highly touted prospect for the 2027 NFL Draft, was seen punching an Alabama player and later arguing with his own coaches.

Stewart, 21, is widely projected as a potential top-10 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. However, his actions during the game against Alabama have cast a shadow over his future. Video footage captured Stewart punching an Alabama tight end in the helmet, resulting in a personal foul penalty. The opposing player claimed Stewart had punched him multiple times during the game.

Beyond the physical altercation, Stewart also exhibited disruptive behavior on the sideline. He was observed arguing with a coach while leaving the field and reportedly refused to leave the game at one point. Another clip showed him attempting to sit alone on the bench and needing to be physically guided back to his teammates. Head coach Shane Beamer was also seen on camera shouting at Stewart to "Jog off the f***ing field."

In a postgame press conference, Beamer confirmed Stewart's indefinite suspension, stating the decision was based on more than just the on-field punch. "That's unacceptable," Beamer said. "That's not how we do things around here. I'm embarrassed to see that because that's not what we're about."

This is not the first instance of controversial behavior from Stewart. In 2024, he made a gun gesture over an opposing quarterback. The following season, he was ejected from a game for unsportsmanlike conduct after shoving an opponent.
