BBC presenter Sophie Raworth has disclosed that her mother, Jenny, is experiencing normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a rare brain disorder also diagnosed in musician Billy Joel. Jenny, 84, who previously worked as a florist and model, is simultaneously undergoing treatment for bowel cancer.

Raworth, 58, shared her mother's diagnosis several months after the death of her father, Richard. Jenny's NPH diagnosis has resulted in her reliance on a wheelchair, a significant change given her previously active lifestyle. Raworth stated that her mother's spinal fluid is not draining, leading to pressure on the brain and affecting her movement.

Billy Joel, 75, publicly revealed his NPH diagnosis in May, citing impacts on his hearing, vision, and balance, which led to the cancellation of several concerts. The cause of his condition remains unidentified by doctors, though he has speculated about alcohol's potential role, referencing his past struggles with substance abuse and mental health.

Raworth's father, Richard, passed away at 83 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. He was remembered as a businessman, photographer, jazz bass player, and gardener known for his kindness and tenacity.

Raworth has three children with her husband, estate agent Richard Winter. She previously spoke about how having children deepened her relationship with her parents. Her younger sister, Kate Raworth, is an economist known for developing the 'doughnut economics' model.
