WNBA player Sophie Cunningham has officially rebranded her podcast, now named "No Hesitation," with a new co-host, months after her previous partner, West Wilson, publicly voiced disagreement over her stance on transgender athletes in sports. The shift follows a period of silence for their previous podcast, "Show Me Something," which had not released an episode since July 21.
Cunningham, an Indiana Fever star, will be joined by Drew Hanlen as her new co-host. "Drew and I love this sport, we could talk basketball all day. Now we will!" Cunningham stated. "We'll dive into everything around the WNBA and NBA and can't wait to share our thoughts. The Volume has been an awesome partner in making that happen."
The podcast's rebranding comes after Cunningham's vocal opinions on transgender athletes in women's sports, which drew both support and criticism. In an ESPN interview, Cunningham stated, "I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men." She also clarified her political stance, describing herself as "very much in the middle."
In response to the growing debate, Wilson appeared to distance himself from Cunningham's views in a TikTok video. He described the issue of transgender athletes in American sports as a "borderline nonexistent issue" and argued that the focus on it diverts attention from more significant societal problems. Wilson noted that the number of transgender athletes in the NCAA is small and suggested that individual cases can be handled separately.
Sources indicate that discussions regarding changes to "Show Me Something" had been ongoing for months, coinciding with the expiration of their one-year partnership agreement. However, the timing of the rebrand has led many to believe that the differing opinions on the transgender athlete debate were a primary factor in the co-hosts parting ways.
