Sophie Cunningham Jabs A'ja Wilson After Fan Altercation Ahead of WNBA Playoff Decider
Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham posted a social media comment seemingly referencing A'ja Wilson's confrontation with a fan during Game 2 of the playoff series.
Sophie Cunningham, a player for the Indiana Fever, posted a social media jab at Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson on Wednesday morning. The comment came after an altercation between Wilson and a fan during Game 2 of their WNBA playoff series.
Cunningham shared a TikTok video where she appeared to joke about Wilson's recent experiences. "I was just here having my morning coffee and what a damn comeback year for the ‘point.’ Who would have ever thought? Just who would have ever thought?" Cunningham said in the video, seemingly referencing an incident where Wilson engaged with a fan after being fouled.
The incident occurred Tuesday night when, following a foul by Cunningham, Wilson got into a verbal dispute with a fan seated near the court. The Aces player then walked into the row of seats behind the basket, leading to a technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct. Video footage indicated the fan, who was already standing, took a couple of steps toward Wilson and said, “That’s on you.”
Cunningham’s social media post may also be referencing a prior on-court altercation she had with Phoenix Mercury player DeWanna Bonner earlier in the season. That incident also went viral.
The ongoing series between the Fever and the Aces is tied at 1-1 heading into a decisive Game 3. The winner-take-all matchup is scheduled for Thursday at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas. Cunningham's comment could potentially add tension to the crucial game.
