Sophia Culpo, the sister-in-law of NFL star Christian McCaffrey, has described a frightening encounter on a train in southern France where she and her boyfriend were the targets of an attempted robbery. The incident occurred on a crowded train traveling from Nice to Portofino.
Culpo, who is the younger sister of McCaffrey's wife Olivia, shared her experience in a TikTok video, stating that she was left shaken by the event. She explained that she and her boyfriend had placed their luggage on the seat in front of them. As the train stopped, two men who had been passengers began to leave. One of the men dropped his phone at her boyfriend's feet, which Culpo believes was a diversion tactic.
While her boyfriend was distracted, another man reached for Culpo's bag, which was on top of their luggage. Culpo's boyfriend intervened, shoving the man away. Simultaneously, another passenger began yelling at her husband, who was further down the train, because she suspected the man had attempted to steal Culpo's passport. However, Culpo stated her passport was not in that particular bag.
Culpo reported that the man who had attempted to grab her bag then approached the train window and engaged in unsettling behavior. "I was shaking," she said, but confirmed that she and her belongings were safe. She noted that the man her boyfriend shoved had a significant scar on his neck, resembling a knife wound, which heightened her fear.
Following the incident, Culpo advised caution for travelers in Europe, expressing a reluctance to travel by train again and suggesting a more minimalist approach to luggage, particularly avoiding designer bags. The couple had previously traveled through Paris and Provence before reaching Nice for their journey to Italy.
Culpo's current European trip comes after her previous relationship with Michael Stevens ended in October. Earlier in the year, rumors circulated about a potential reunion with NFL player Braxton Berrios, which Culpo addressed by posting a video on TikTok humorously questioning her own location.
