Sophia Bush Reveals Secret Marriage to Ashlyn Harris in New Memoir
The 'One Tree Hill' star announced her marriage to soccer player Ashlyn Harris, detailing their private wedding a year after their union.
Sophia Bush, known for her role in "One Tree Hill," has revealed she secretly married soccer star Ashlyn Harris a year ago, with details emerging in her forthcoming memoir. The couple exchanged vows in the summer of 2025 in a private ceremony in upstate New York.
Bush, 44, and Harris, 40, began their relationship in 2023, a year before Bush publicly came out as queer. They kept their engagement and wedding details private, opting not to make a public announcement.
"When you get to this stage in your life, you begin to unpack what’s yours and what’s always sort of been for everyone else," Bush told Vogue regarding their decision to keep the marriage under wraps. She expressed a desire to call Harris her "wife" rather than her "partner," finding the latter term insufficient for their relationship.
This marks Bush's third marriage and Harris's second. Harris was previously married to Ali Krieger, with whom she shares two children, Sloane and Ocean. Their separation was announced in September 2023, and their divorce was finalized in 2025. Bush divorced her second husband, Grant Hughes, in 2023 after a 13-month marriage. Her first marriage was to "One Tree Hill" co-star Chad Michael Murray from 2005 to 2006.
Bush and Harris reportedly met in 2019 but did not begin dating until October 2023, following the dissolution of their respective previous marriages. Bush addressed accusations of being a "home-wrecker," denying that she caused the breakdown of Harris's marriage and emphasizing the delicate and private nature of the transitions.
"A lot of effort was made to be graceful with other people's processing, their time and obligations, and their feelings," Bush stated. Harris also commented on navigating the public attention, noting the importance of maintaining integrity during a difficult and public period.
Bush and Harris made their public debut as a couple in April 2024 at the White House Correspondents Dinner. Shortly before this event, Bush announced her relationship with Harris and declared her identity as queer in a published essay. In the essay, she clarified that past partners were aware of her attraction to women.
