Sophia Bush Reveals Secret Marriage to Ashlyn Harris

Sophia Bush, known for her role in "One Tree Hill," has revealed that she and soccer star Ashlyn Harris were married a year ago. The details of their private wedding in upstate New York in the summer of 2025 are shared in Bush's new memoir, "And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress."

The couple, who began their romance in 2023 and whose relationship became public after Bush came out as queer in 2024, did not publicly announce an engagement and kept their nuptials private. They were recently observed displaying their wedding rings on a red carpet.

Bush, 44, told Vogue that the decision to keep their marriage a secret stemmed from a desire to reclaim personal life amidst public scrutiny. "When you get to this stage in your life, you begin to unpack what’s yours and what’s always sort of been for everyone else," she stated. She also expressed that she felt uncomfortable referring to Harris, 40, as her "partner" and preferred the term "wife."

Harris's children, Sloane and Ocean, attended the ceremony. "The kids were just running and happy, and we picked flowers from the property and our daughter Sloane was holding them. It was so fun for them, because it wasn’t this pressure-filled day that’s too much for young kids," Harris recalled. She added that the day was "so precious, and zero pressure."

Following the ceremony, the couple informed friends and family and later made public appearances, including their red carpet debut at the White House Correspondents Dinner in April 2024. Harris emphasized the importance of visibility for LGBTQ+ youth, stating, "The visibility piece matters, because there are still kids hiding who don’t feel seen, and if we make room and space for one person, that’s worth maybe costing us a little bit of peace in the public eye."

This marks Harris's second marriage and Bush's third. Harris divorced her former wife and soccer player Ali Krieger in 2025, after they married in 2019 and adopted two children together. Bush filed for divorce from her second husband, Grant Hughes, in August 2023, after a 13-month marriage. Bush was previously married to "One Tree Hill" co-star Chad Michael Murray from 2005 to 2006.

Bush and Harris reportedly first met in 2019 but did not begin dating until October 2023, after their respective marriages had ended. Bush has denied accusations of being a "home-wrecker," stating in an interview with Glamour that considerable time and effort were spent navigating the situation with grace and consideration for all involved.

Harris shared her approach to handling the public attention surrounding their relationship, noting the importance of maintaining respect for her children's other parent and avoiding speaking ill of them. "I never wanted to speak ill about the mother of my children in front of them, with other friends. It was really important to me," she said.

In her essay announcing her relationship with Harris, Bush also came out as queer, addressing speculation about her past relationships and clarifying that her attractions were not a new revelation to her former partners.
