Sophia Bush and Ashlyn Harris Secretly Married in Upstate New York

Actress Sophia Bush and former professional soccer player Ashlyn Harris were married in a private ceremony in upstate New York during the summer of 2025, with Harris’ children present. The couple shared details of their wedding with Vogue in a story published on Wednesday.

"The kids were just running and happy, and we picked flowers from the property and our daughter Sloane was holding them. It was so fun for them, because it wasn’t this pressure-filled day that’s too much for young kids," Harris told Vogue. She added, "It was so precious, and zero pressure. I will never forget it, and I think wedding days sometimes aren’t like that."

Harris, who shares her children Sloane, 5, and Ocean, 4, with her ex-wife and former USWNT teammate Ali Krieger, explained the personal significance of the ceremony. Bush stated she was tired of referring to Harris as "my partner" and desired to use the word "wife."

"We got to have personal experiences with everyone we love, and once we got through all of those, how do we put it out? Because I don’t want to keep sitting on panels or in interviews and being like, ‘my partner,’" Bush said. "You’re not my partner, you know? You’re my wife. And it feels so amazing to say that."

Bush described their wedding night as ending with roasting marshmallows with their family. The "One Tree Hill" alum also detailed the ceremony in her forthcoming memoir, "And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress," set to be released on October 27. An excerpt was published by Vogue.

"We wept. We laughed. We exchanged rings. The invisible string pulled tighter around us," Bush wrote in the excerpt. "When our photos came, they were perfect. Just us. Pure joy. The backyard and the sunset. Easy, and by that, I mean at ease. And it was ours, just ours."

Bush and Harris publicly confirmed their relationship in 2024, after initially being linked in the fall of 2023. Harris filed for divorce from Krieger on September 19, 2023, citing that the marriage was "irretrievably broken."

Harris retired from professional soccer in November 2022, while Krieger concluded her career at the end of the 2023 NWSL season, with her last game for Gotham FC. Both were part of the USWNT squads that won the World Cup in 2015 and 2019.
