Sofia Vergara Seen Amid Ex-Husband Joe Manganiello's Memoir Revelations
The actress appeared in Los Angeles, marking her first public sighting since the release of her ex-husband's memoir detailing struggles during their marriage.
Sofia Vergara was seen in Los Angeles this week, making her first public appearance since the release of her ex-husband Joe Manganiello's memoir, "Bloodlines." The book details Manganiello's health struggles during their marriage and criticizes Vergara's perceived lack of emotional support.
Vergara, 54, was photographed leaving a spa in casual attire, including a gray Nirvana graphic T-shirt, blue jeans, and sandals. She accessorized with sunglasses and a gray suede Bottega Veneta handbag. When approached by photographers, she did not comment on the claims made in Manganiello's book.
The memoir recounts Manganiello's battle with an autoimmune disease that began after his 2015 wedding to Vergara. He described experiencing symptoms such as abdominal pain, an ulcerated digestive tract, fevers, rashes, headaches, and fatigue. The actor stated that he lost approximately 60 pounds and underwent emergency surgery to remove a portion of his intestine in 2016.
According to the book, the resulting pain led Manganiello to relapse into substance use after 13 years of sobriety, taking pain medication and marijuana when prescribed medication proved insufficient. He also disclosed experiencing suicidal ideations and having to surrender a firearm due to thoughts of self-harm. Manganiello alleges that Vergara offered minimal emotional support during this period, including refusing to hug him and mocking a chihuahua he adopted for emotional support.
A point of contention between the former couple, according to the memoir, was their differing desires regarding children. Vergara, who has a 35-year-old son, Manolo, from a previous marriage, expressed in a January 2024 interview with El País that she did not want to be an older mother, feeling it would be unfair to the child. She stated she had her son at 19 and was ready to be a grandmother, not a mother.
Manganiello, however, reportedly pushed back on these claims in a July 2024 Men's Journal article, stating that the press misrepresented his desire for a family and that he and Vergara did attempt to start a family during their first year and a half of marriage.
Vergara and Manganiello divorced in July 2023 after seven years of marriage. Manganiello is now engaged to Caitlin O’Connor, 37, and has written in his book that he would be open to starting a family with her, indicating that he has put his past health issues behind him and feels his world has reopened.
