Socialite's 'Get Ready With Me' Video Takes Somber Turn as Father Emerges From Coma
Influencer Casey James reveals her father is finally well enough to return to Australia after a 50-day coma following an accident in Thailand.
Eastern suburbs socialite and influencer Casey James's typical "get ready with me" video took an emotional turn as she revealed her father was preparing to leave a Thai hospital after spending 50 days in a coma.
James, who is also a model and co-founder of Copini Beauty, shared the update on Instagram, explaining that her father had been in a coma following an accident in Thailand. She had been raising funds to bring him back to Australia, and announced he was finally well enough to fly home after seven weeks.
"Long story short, the plane never came," James said in the video, referring to an initial medical evacuation plan. She explained that she had paid $100,000 upfront to a UK-based medical evacuation company, which then allegedly stopped responding. "The plane never arrived and we haven't heard from them since," she recounted.
Following this setback, her family secured a different medical evacuation company, which she described as "incredible." Despite the ordeal, her father's condition had improved significantly. He had begun breathing on his own, experienced no seizures, and was cleared to fly back to Australia.
"Now he's been fit enough to fly back to Australia. Fifty days later, my dad is finally coming back to Australia," James stated, her voice filled with emotion.
James, the wife of Ray White Double Bay real estate agent Warren Ginsberg, had initially flown to Thailand after being notified by the Department of Foreign Affairs about her father's accident. He was found unconscious in his hotel room and required multiple emergency brain surgeries, including a procedure to relieve pressure and swelling in his skull, leading to an induced coma.
Her father's medical bills had mounted, prompting James and her cousin, Bridgette Pereira, to launch a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $250,000. The family had already incurred over $135,000 in medical expenses, with intensive care costs around $50,000 per week. The initial estimated cost for his medical transport back to Australia was $500,000. The GoFundMe has since raised $99,722.
James expressed gratitude to her followers for their support. "You guys are the reason why we've been able to get my dad back to Australia," she said, also voicing her anger at those she felt exploited her family's vulnerability. "I guess that's why, because I was an easy target, and for people to take advantage of that is a disgrace."
She noted that the past 50 days had been "one of the worst rollercoasters" of her life and felt an overwhelming sense of relief knowing her father was finally returning to Australian soil.
