Internet personality Maria Morales Tirado, widely known as 'Mami' to her 200,000 social media followers, died on September 28, her 107th birthday. Her son, Tony Morales, announced her peaceful passing in a Facebook post, noting that she departed on the same day she celebrated her birth.
Tirado gained a devoted following on her Facebook page, 'Mami is my Attitude 4 a Lifestyle,' for her authentic wisdom, joyful spirit, and engaging content. Photos and videos often depicted her tending to her garden, sharing virtual hugs with followers, and playfully using everyday objects, like a banana as a phone. She frequently conveyed affection by making the 'I love you' hand sign.
In one of her final posts in March, Tirado encouraged her followers to pray for a better society. Her son shared that she died at 3:45 a.m. at her home in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, emphasizing that she lived her life and departed on her own terms.
"Although she is 107 years old, although we have gray hair, children, and grandchildren, we are still those children who find security simply in knowing that Mami is still there," Morales wrote. He reflected on his mother's strength throughout her long life, noting that while her physical strength waned in recent years, she continued to impart lessons.
"She showed us that strength can also be opening one's eyes for one more day, recognizing a voice, shaking a hand, or giving us a small smile," he added.
Tirado's legacy extends through her vast family, including 14 children, 48 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and 28 great-great-grandchildren. Her son stated that her memory will live on through their words, customs, recipes, stories, and the way they care for their own families.
Morales concluded his tribute by expressing gratitude for her 107 years and her final lesson: the understanding that profound love also involves acceptance of letting go.
Fans shared heartfelt condolences in the comments, remembering Tirado as an "eternal light" and a "gift from life." Many acknowledged the deep connection she fostered, particularly within the Puerto Rican community, for whom she was a source of laughter, smiles, and togetherness.
