Maria Morales Tirado, the beloved social media personality known online as 'Mami,' died on September 28, her 107th birthday. Her passing was announced by her son, Tony Morales, who shared the news on Facebook.
Tirado cultivated a following of 200,000 on her Facebook page, 'Mami is my Attitude 4 a Lifestyle.' She gained popularity for sharing her sage advice, authenticity, and infectious laughter, alongside her passion for cooking, gardening, and her faith. Her posts often featured her tending to her garden, sending virtual hugs to her followers, and making the hand sign for 'I love you.'
Morales described his mother's final moments as peaceful. "She left as she had lived: under her own terms, calmly and in peace," he wrote in his tribute. "The date we celebrate throughout our lives as the beginning of her existence was also the day of her farewell."
He shared that while Tirado's physical strength had diminished in recent years, she continued to impart lessons. "She showed us that strength can also be opening one's eyes for one more day, recognizing a voice, shaking a hand, or giving us a small smile," he said.
Tirado's legacy extends to a large family, including 14 children, 48 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and 28 great-great-grandchildren. Her son emphasized that her influence will endure through family traditions, recipes, stories, and the care she instilled in subsequent generations.
Fans expressed their condolences and shared memories, highlighting Tirado's positive impact. Many noted her ability to bring joy and laughter to people, particularly within the Puerto Rican community, spanning from Puerto Rico to various cities in the United States. Tirado resided in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. Her final public message in March encouraged followers to pray for a better society.
