Small Plane Lands on Interstate 80 in Nevada, Disrupting Traffic
The incident on Thursday morning near Patrick caused a closure of westbound lanes on the highway connecting Reno to California.
A small plane made an emergency landing on Interstate 80 in Nevada on Thursday morning, leading to the closure of westbound traffic. The single-engine Seawind 3000 aircraft landed on the highway near Patrick, east of Reno, at approximately 7:49 a.m., just seven minutes after departing from Reno-Stead Airport.
The crash-landing forced authorities to shut down all westbound lanes of I-80 in the vicinity of USA Parkway. The Nevada Department of Transportation advised drivers to seek an alternate route via southbound USA Parkway and indicated there was no immediate estimate for when the highway would reopen.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and are responding to investigate the incident. No injuries were reported as a result of the landing.
