Slipknot guitarist Jim Root has shared a cryptic message with fans following a report that DJ Sid Wilson has been removed from the band. Wilson, who has been a member of the Grammy-winning group for 28 years, was reportedly fired Friday.
"Don't believe everything you read," Root wrote on his Instagram Story, accompanied by a photo of a backyard pool and the Slipknot song 'Till We Die' playing in the background. He added, "Stop. Think. Take a breathe. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there's more information."
Root, 54, appears to be the first member of Slipknot to publicly address the situation, though he offered no further details regarding Wilson's alleged ousting. The report from TMZ stated that Wilson, 49, had been permanently removed from the band, but the specific reason for his departure remains unclear.
Other current members, including Shawn 'Clown' Crahan, Mick Thomson, and Corey Taylor, have not yet commented on Wilson's exit.
Wilson's reported departure comes amid personal turmoil. Earlier this year, he ended his engagement to Kelly Osbourne. The former couple share a three-year-old son, Sidney. Their engagement, which took place in 2025, was called off in March.
Wilson joined Slipknot in early 1998, becoming the final addition to the band's iconic nine-member lineup. He was known for his distinctive gas-mask-inspired look and high-energy performances, which often included stage dives and climbing venue structures.
The last member to leave Slipknot before Wilson was drummer Jay Weinberg, who departed in November 2023. At the time, the band stated they had "decided to make a creative decision and to part ways with Jay."
Slipknot's lineup has seen several changes over the years. Bassist Paul Gray died in 2010, and original drummer Joey Jordison died in 2021. Percussionist Chris Fehn was dismissed in 2019, and keyboardist Craig Jones exited in 2023 without a publicly explained reason.
