The family of Celeste Rivas Hernandez has called for the death penalty for rapper D4vd, whose legal name is D4vd Burke, in the criminal case charging him with her murder. The demand was issued on what would have been Hernandez's 16th birthday in a statement released through the family's attorney.

"If the death penalty were activated, it would be perfect for this kind of human being, devoid of feelings and emptiness inside, and without conscience, who only caused pain to our daughter, our family, and the world that supports our precious daughter," the statement read.

Burke pleaded not guilty to the murder charge last week. His trial has been moved to next year. He was previously represented by a celebrity defense attorney but is now being represented by a public defender.

Deputy public defender Walid Kandeel stated that Burke is "entitled to a defence that takes his circumstances seriously and carefully examines the evidence," adding that his office is committed to providing that defense. His office has not yet commented on a related civil lawsuit.

In July, a judge found sufficient probable cause for Burke to stand trial in the criminal case. At that time, the district attorney indicated they were considering whether to seek the death penalty.

The civil lawsuit also names several of Burke's companies and managers, his mother, and a live-in security guard. Hernandez's parents allege that these individuals "enabled Burke to isolate" Rivas Hernandez and facilitated his travel, housing, and security. Burke's management company, Mogul Vision, and his finance manager have previously denied knowledge of Burke and Rivas Hernandez's relationship, according to the Los Angeles Times.
