Jessica Gorman, the mother of slain Loyola student Sheridan Gorman, unveiled a memorial bench at the Republican midterm convention intended for Congress. The bench is dedicated to her daughter, who was murdered by an undocumented immigrant.

The bench, a project that took approximately 200 hours to complete, was handcrafted by a law enforcement officer from North Carolina. Gorman stated the bench bears the inscription, “May this century mind us to see those who feel alone, to choose kindness, and to remember every light.”

Following the presentation, Gorman invited U.S. Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) to sit on the bench onstage. Sheridan Gorman, 18, was a native of Westchester County.
