Sky Sports News presenter Jo Wilson has shared the significant emotional impact of receiving an incorrect cancer diagnosis, three years after she had been given the all-clear from stage 3 cervical cancer.

Wilson, 41, was initially diagnosed in June 2022 after a routine smear test and underwent a year of treatment, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy. She was later told in February of this year that cancer had reappeared in a lymph node, a development she described as feeling like her "whole world had crumbled all over again."

After being referred to a high-dose radiotherapy team, a consultant raised questions about the accuracy of the diagnosis. This led to a five-month period of tests, scans, and uncertainty. Last week, Wilson received the news that the lymph node was likely a benign neuroma, a cluster of nerves, and not cancerous.

"The relief was indescribable, but so too is the emotional toll from the last five months, believing - then not knowing if my cancer had returned," Wilson stated in an Instagram post. "Living with that uncertainty was incredibly hard."

She described how, despite maintaining outward appearances of normal life, including working, being a mother, and spending time with loved ones, she was "carrying something very heavy" and experienced "very dark places."

Wilson explained her decision to share her story, stating that the fear of recurrence can persist long after treatment ends, and that social media often presents an incomplete picture of reality. She also emphasized the importance of kindness, reminding people that individuals may be facing unseen battles.

Her initial diagnosis in 2022 came shortly after the birth of her daughter, Mabel. Wilson recalled the shock, saying, "It hit me like a truck. I did wonder if I'm going to die. I'd prepared myself for the worst, I think you have to."

Her treatment involved five weeks of daily radiotherapy, weekly chemotherapy, and three days of internal brachytherapy. She identified the separation from her daughter during the brachytherapy as the darkest period of her illness.

Wilson was initially told there was "no evidence of disease" in March 2023, a milestone she celebrated with champagne. She graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a Master's in journalism in 2011 and began her career at Sky Sports News the same year, eventually making her on-screen debut in 2015. In November 2025, she released a documentary titled "Football, Cancer and Me," exploring the experiences of football figures who had battled cancer.
