The ski-guiding company Blackbird Mountain Guides has been fined $151,300 by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health following a deadly avalanche that killed nine people in February. The avalanche occurred near Castle Peak and resulted in the deaths of six clients and three guides.
The incident saw victims buried under 5 to 6 feet of snow. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office concluded its investigation into potential criminal negligence related to the disaster earlier this month and forwarded its findings to the county prosecutor for review.
