Skechers, a major sponsor of former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, has remained silent on the status of its partnership with the broadcaster following his arrest last month for operating while intoxicated (OWI).
Multiple attempts by the California Post to reach Skechers for comment on its relationship with Romo, who was arrested on July 23 in Milwaukee County, have gone unanswered. An assistant for Skechers spokesperson Jennifer Clay stated on two occasions that Clay was unavailable due to meetings, and subsequent requests for callbacks were not returned.
Romo has been associated with Skechers since 2017, shortly after concluding his NFL career. At the outset of their collaboration, Skechers president Michael Greenberg expressed confidence that Romo's "reach will help convey how our athletic and casual footwear delivers on style and comfort for men everywhere."
Over the years, Romo has appeared in numerous commercials for the brand. He notably shared an advertisement for Skechers sneakers on his Instagram page just three weeks prior to his arrest. Four of his last six Instagram posts before his arrest featured advertisements for Skechers, though no posts promoting the brand have been made since his detention.
Another sponsor, Bayer, with whom Romo recently began a collaboration, has also not responded to inquiries about their relationship with the former quarterback.
A representative for Corona confirmed that the beer maker and other companies within the Constellation Brands network have not worked with Romo since 2022. Romo was previously featured in "Corona Hotline" commercials for the brand.
Romo, who played in the NFL from 2004 to 2016, transitioned to a role as a prominent analyst for CBS Sports. The network has stated that Romo is on leave "until further notice" following his arrest. David Berson, President of CBS Sports, described the situation as "evolving" and under assessment, with no final decision or timetable in place.
Former NFL player J.J. Watt has been selected to fill in for Romo during his absence.
