Skattebo Expresses Empathy for Best Friend Dart Following Season-Ending Injury
Giants running back Cam Skattebo reflects on the emotional toll of teammate Jaxson Dart's injury, drawing parallels to his own past experience.

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo expressed deep empathy for his "best friend," quarterback Jaxson Dart, following Dart's season-ending knee injury. Dart is scheduled for surgery, marking another significant setback for the team's offensive core.
"He’s my best friend. It’s a little emotional for me," Skattebo said after practice Thursday. "It sucked to lose him, but we gotta move on. The team still has a full season left … It’s something we have to battle through."
Skattebo's words carry particular weight as he experienced a similar devastating injury less than a year ago. An ankle injury ended Skattebo's rookie season after just eight games. At the time, Dart shared his support for Skattebo, stating, "That’s my boy. Seeing him go down and reacting to what happened, it sucks. It’s the worst part of this game."
Despite their on-field partnership being hampered by injuries—they have only played five full games together in their two seasons—Skattebo remains optimistic about their future. "I got hurt last year and didn’t get to play with the guys, and he got hurt this year. It sucks, it does suck, but the bright side is we have a long future ahead of us," Skattebo explained.
He added that Dart is maintaining a strong mindset, drawing on past experiences with injuries. "Jaxson’s gonna be here every day working his butt off to make sure Jameis [Winston] is in a good spot, the guys are in a good spot and he’s doing whatever he can to help. He’s doing great. Obviously when you get hurt, it sucks, and you don’t know what to think. Like coach [John Harbaugh] says, it feels like the world’s over when you get hurt, but there’s another day to live on. He knows he has more future left in his life … He’s strong-minded. He’s been through this a couple times already, so he knows how to deal with it."
