Six Scottish seaside communities have been recognized among the United Kingdom's most desirable coastal destinations, according to a recent survey by Which? members. The rankings highlight St Andrews and Crail in Fife as top contenders, with Bamburgh in Northumberland securing the overall top spot.

St Andrews, renowned as the "Home of Golf," achieved the third position. The fishing village of Crail shared the fourth spot with Aldeburgh in Suffolk. Other Scottish locations making the top 30 list include North Berwick in East Lothian, Plockton in Ross-shire, Dornoch in Sutherland, and Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.

The survey, which polled over 5,300 individuals about their recent experiences with UK seaside destinations, evaluated locations based on several criteria. These included food and drink, tourist attractions, scenery, shopping opportunities, beaches, peace and quiet, value for money, and the quality of the town's or village's seafront or pier.

While St Andrews scored well across most categories, it was noted as less tranquil and potentially expensive for visitors seeking peace. Crail was described as lacking in tourist attractions and shopping, with its bars, restaurants, and value for money rated as average. Plockton received full marks for scenery and peace and quiet, with other categories not being applicable. Dornoch was awarded four out of five stars for scenery and peace and quiet, but received only two stars for tourist attractions.

Tobermory earned perfect scores for its seafront/pier and scenery, along with four stars for attractions and three stars for other applicable categories. According to Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, the North East of England emerged as a favorite this year, lauded for its outstanding beaches and good value for money. He also noted the presence of exceptional seaside towns across the UK, suggesting that many lesser-known destinations offer enjoyable experiences and potential savings for travelers.
