Six Killed, Including Child, in Wisconsin Plane Crash

Six people, including one child, died Tuesday night when a small plane crashed in a wooded area near Wisconsin Dells, according to the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department.

The six-seat, single-engine Piper PA-46 was en route from Kenosha to Menomonie when it went down shortly before 10 p.m. in the Town of Dellona, close to Mirror Lake State Park. Authorities reported that rain was falling as a thunderstorm moved through the region.

The sheriff's department confirmed it received multiple reports of a downed aircraft around 9:30 p.m. First responders found five adults and one child deceased at the scene.

Officials stated the aircraft had been in communication with a nearby air traffic control tower prior to the crash. Investigators are examining those transmissions and assessing whether weather conditions contributed to the incident. There were no reports of damage to structures or individuals on the ground. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are leading the investigation into the crash.
