Six concert workers were hospitalized Saturday following a forklift accident during the load-out process for an Ed Sheeran concert at Ford Field in Detroit. The Detroit Fire Department responded to the scene around 11 p.m. after the incident occurred as the stage was being dismantled.
Several workers reported that the equipment lost control and struck multiple individuals near a vehicle tunnel. One worker, who was hospitalized overnight, was released Sunday. Another crew member described the event as happening in a "split second" and an experience they had "never experienced anything like that."
No injuries were reported as life-threatening. Of the six individuals transported to hospitals, two were in serious condition and four were in stable condition. The venue confirmed that one of the injured individuals was a Ford Field employee.
Ford Field has initiated a comprehensive review of the incident and is cooperating with authorities and the event's production partners. The stadium stated that it would not speculate on the cause of the accident out of respect for those involved and the integrity of the review.
Ed Sheeran's "Mathematics Tour" is ongoing, with the next scheduled concert on September 4 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The tour is set to conclude in December.
