Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey is set to unveil Bakunawa, a new roller coaster designed to break six world records upon its debut in 2027. The attraction, inspired by a legendary sea serpent from Philippine folklore, will stand 382 feet tall and reach speeds of up to 100 mph along a 3,163-foot track.
Bakunawa is engineered to be one of the tallest roller coasters globally. Riders will experience three launches, including what Six Flags describes as the world's first upside-down launch. The coaster will feature free-spinning, floorless trains that rotate throughout the ride, offering a unique experience with each journey.
According to park president Mike Fehnel, riders will ascend 90 degrees to the top of the 382-foot tower. They will then experience a pause before descending and repeating the process in reverse. The ride is also slated to set records for the fastest inversion, longest stall inversion, and the first floorless spinning coaster.
The coaster will be the central feature of a renovated Boardwalk area at Six Flags Great Adventure. While specific details about the renovation and an exact opening date have not yet been released, the park has confirmed that each ride will last approximately two minutes and 17 seconds. The ride will accommodate two trains, each capable of carrying 20 passengers, with a minimum height requirement of 48 inches.
