A teenage boy and four adults were killed Friday in a series of shootings in Missaukee County, Michigan, culminating in a manhunt for a suspect whose body was later found with another victim.

A 13-year-old girl survived the shootings and was in stable condition, according to Michigan State Police. Authorities identified one of the deceased as Chad Hickman, 39, whose body was found in a wooded area.

Officers initially responded Friday morning to a report of a shooting at a home approximately 170 miles northwest of Detroit. There, they discovered the bodies of a 16-year-old boy, a 45-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman, and the 13-year-old girl, who was in critical condition.

Hickman fled that scene, prompting a large-scale search. Investigators later located the body of a 53-year-old man at a second home. In a wooded area, authorities found the bodies of Hickman and a 29-year-old woman.

All victims died of apparent gunshot wounds. The investigation is ongoing, Lt. Ashley Miller stated on Saturday.

Court records indicate Hickman was convicted in 2024 of misdemeanor fourth-degree child abuse and sentenced to one year in jail. Charges of felony assault and criminal sexual conduct were dismissed in the same case.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she was monitoring the situation and offered her thoughts to the victims, their families, and the Missaukee community.
