Three sisters who drowned at Brighton beach died as part of a suicide pact, an inquest has found, after visiting the location where their mother died 16 years prior.
Three sisters who drowned off the coast of Brighton died in a suicide pact after visiting the place where their mother died 16 years earlier, an inquest has determined.
The bodies of Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were recovered from Brighton beach on May 13 after police and coastguard were alerted to a woman in distress at sea.
An inquest heard that less than 48 hours before their deaths, the sisters traveled from their home in Uxbridge, London, to Erdington, Birmingham, on May 11. They visited their mother's former home and the lake where she died by suicide in 2010. After a 90-minute visit, they returned to London early on May 12 and then traveled to Brighton, arriving that evening.
CCTV footage showed the sisters walking near the beach road before they were seen heading onto the beach at 2:42 a.m. on May 13. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
