Sister Mourns Sahara Ray After Suspected Overdose Death
Ruby Ray describes her late sibling, a swimwear entrepreneur, as a "force of nature" in an emotional tribute.
Sahara Ray's younger sister, Ruby Ray, has publicly mourned the Australian model and swimwear entrepreneur following her suspected fentanyl overdose death. Ruby Ray described her late sibling as a "force of nature" and a "light so bright that this world feels impossibly dimmer without her in it."
Sahara Ray, 34, died in a Los Angeles hospital. While an official cause of death has not been released, reports suggest fentanyl overdose was the cause. The Daily Mail reported the suspected cause, citing information shared by Ruby Ray. Her family told TMZ that she was "so loved" at the time of her passing.
Ruby Ray shared a carousel of throwback photos on Instagram, including images of the sisters during their childhood. "My beautiful big sister, Sahara," Ruby wrote. "The most vivacious, intelligent, hilarious, kind, empathetic and breathtakingly beautiful soul. A force of nature."
She described the grief as an "excruciating, all-consuming pain" and expressed a deep longing for more time with her sister. "I just want my big sister," Ruby wrote. "I want more time. More laughter. More conversations. More of her."
Sahara Ray, founder of Sahara Ray Swim, was the daughter of legendary surfer Tony Ray. She had welcomed her daughter, Snow Ray Dow, nine months prior to her death. Ray had been largely out of the public eye in recent years. Her last public appearance was at the Ashton Michael RTW + 10-Year Anniversary Show in Los Angeles in November 2023.
In April 2024, Ray had revealed her battle with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune condition that left her partially paralyzed and temporarily using a wheelchair after being hit by a car. According to Mayo Clinic, Guillain-Barré syndrome is a condition where the body's immune system attacks nerves, causing weakness, numbness, or paralysis, and can be triggered by trauma such as a car crash.
