Sir Rod Stewart Says He's 'Brilliant' After Heart Surgery, Denies Retirement Plans
The 81-year-old musician, recently fitted with a coronary stent, was seen enjoying a night out with his wife Penny Lancaster.
Sir Rod Stewart, 81, has shared a positive update on his health following a recent heart surgery, stating he is feeling "f****** brilliant." The update comes after the legendary singer was seen enjoying a night out at the theatre with his wife, Penny Lancaster, 55. Stewart revealed he had a coronary stent fitted after doctors discovered a blockage due to an "underlying heart issue."
Stewart recently underwent the procedure, which led to the postponement of some dates on his "One Last Time" farewell tour. Despite announcing his retirement from stage performances after six decades, Lancaster suggested Stewart has no plans to slow down.
"He's never retiring!" Lancaster quipped, adding that he intends to continue touring until 2028, transitioning from rock and roll to the Great American Songbook.
Stewart and Lancaster were photographed outside the Aldwych Theatre after attending a performance of "Sinatra The Musical." Stewart, who is known for his flamboyant style, wore a black suit paired with a satin shirt and glittering trainers. Lancaster opted for a black leather pleated miniskirt, showcasing her legs.
The couple arrived and departed in Stewart's white Rolls-Royce, which was parked on double yellow lines for the duration of the show, with their driver reportedly waiting outside.
Stewart, who has been performing since he was 19, announced his final rock and roll tour, "The Final Encore," which is scheduled to begin in Dublin on April 23 and conclude in Hannover, Germany, on July 24. UK dates include stops in Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, and London.
Earlier this year, Stewart was forced to cut short a segment of his "One Last Time" tour in the U.S. due to an acute upper respiratory infection, laryngitis, and vocal strain. Following the heart surgery, he was advised to refrain from performing for at least four weeks to recover.
Stewart also reflected on his relationship with the late singer Frank Sinatra, noting their close family ties and Sinatra's mentorship. Sinatra's daughters are godmothers to two of Stewart's children.
Stewart expressed gratitude to his fans for their support over his extensive career, stating, "I hope I've given you something in return." He added that the upcoming tour would be his "last rock and roll tour ever" and expressed his hope that fans would join him to "say farewell to life on the road."
