Sir Patrick Stewart's Final Public Appearance Was at Huddersfield Town Match

Sir Patrick Stewart's last known public appearance was at a Huddersfield Town football match on November 9, 2024, two years before his death.

Stewart, who had been privately battling Alzheimer's disease and Lewy body dementia, was pictured wearing a Huddersfield Town scarf while watching the team play against Crawley. The actor had supported the club since he was seven years old.

Huddersfield Town released a statement describing Stewart as "a titan of his craft and a legend and hero to millions worldwide," adding that he was "a Terrier in every sense."

Stewart's family confirmed his death in a statement on Instagram, noting he had "been held in the warm embrace of family and friends, surrounded by live music, prayer, tears, laughter, and the kind of profound emotion that only he could inspire after a lifetime of devotion to us all."

In the two years leading up to his death, Stewart had largely withdrawn from public life. However, in what proved to be his final interview on July 7, 2026, with TV Line, he stated he had no plans to retire.

"I can't imagine ever officially 'retiring,'" Stewart told the outlet. "I'll always and forever be an actor."

He spoke at the time about the 40th anniversary of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," where he famously portrayed Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Stewart called the role "without question" the most significant of his career, expressing gratitude for being part of the franchise. He reprised the role for the Paramount+ series "Picard" from 2020 to 2023.

Stewart's final acting role will be posthumous, appearing as Charles Xavier in "Avengers: Doomsday."

Before attending the football match, Stewart was seen at a special screening in Los Angeles for "The Piano Lesson" on October 19, 2024. The previous day, he attended a screening of "Gladiator II," where he was photographed with star Paul Mescal. He was not seen at any public events after these October 2024 appearances.
