A sinkhole has caused significant damage to Nicolas Cage's beachfront mansion in Malibu, California, swallowing the property's driveway and a section of the street. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, prompting a response from firefighters investigating a suspected gas main break.

The luxurious residence, which Cage purchased in 2024 for $10.5 million, is now surrounded by construction cones. Photos from the scene show the property at the edge of a large crater.

The sinkhole is reportedly around 30 feet by 30 feet and is believed to be a result of coastal erosion. High surf in the area, following the development of former Hurricane Marie, may have contributed to the conditions. The gas company has been on site to address the gas main, and no evacuations have been ordered.

The 1990s-era home features a rooftop deck with a jacuzzi, extensive glass walls, and access to a private beach. It was previously owned by the late Jose Liberman, co-founder of Liberman Broadcasting, and remained in his family until its sale to Cage. Lenard Liberman, Jose's son, described the property as his father's "happy place."
