Simone Biles has undergone a medical procedure just weeks after experiencing what she described as one of the scariest and potentially life-threatening experiences of her life.

Biles posted an update on Instagram from a hospital on Thursday, sharing a photo of herself in a hospital gown and cap alongside her husband, NFL safety Jonathan Owens. She joked that Owens had to spend his birthday with her at the hospital while she underwent the procedure.

"His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure," Biles wrote in her Instagram story.

This marks the first public update since Biles shared in June that she had been hospitalized for a serious medical emergency. At the time, she posted photos of hospital bracelets and flowers, stating that she had been resting in bed and that the incident was "one of, if not the scariest experience of [her] life."

Biles, an 11-time Olympic medalist, typically values her privacy and did not disclose the specific reason for her hospital visits on either occasion. She did, however, respond to some comments questioning the severity of her earlier medical event.

While on vacation in the Dominican Republic with Owens a few weeks after the initial incident, Biles addressed remarks that questioned the seriousness of her health scare. She expressed sadness that some commenters would doubt her experience and emphasized that life-changing events can shift one's perspective.

"A little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently, and this trip has been part of allowing myself to heal and appreciate being here," she wrote, also clarifying that a beverage shown in a video was non-alcoholic.
