Sian Massey-Ellis, a prominent assistant referee who officiated in over 150 Premier League matches, has announced her retirement from officiating to accept a new position with the Football Association (FA).
In her new senior manager role, Massey-Ellis will focus on the development and support of female officials within the sport. She rose to the Premier League in 2010, becoming the second woman to reach that level of officiating. Her career also includes being the first Englishwoman to officiate in a men's European fixture and the first woman to take charge of a men's FA Cup final. She was also involved in five Women's FA Cup finals.
Massey-Ellis stated that while she is stepping away from the touchline, her involvement in football continues. She expressed hope that her career path has contributed to changing perceptions and opening doors for others, particularly inspiring young individuals to pursue careers in the sport.
