While Ohtani's hardest-hit ball of the game did not result in a home run, dying at the warning track, it represented his strongest contact in nearly six weeks. His appearance marked a visible improvement from his previous state, where he exhibited signs of pain and diminished swing mechanics. President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman noted that Ohtani "certainly feels way better" and that getting him at-bats and rhythm before the playoffs is crucial.

Ohtani's four plate appearances included a first-inning single on a 99 mph line drive and a six-pitch walk in the third inning, indicating improved plate discipline. However, he also struck out with the bases loaded in the fourth inning and again in the ninth, finishing the game 1-for-4. Manager Dave Roberts cautioned that it had been a while since Ohtani had played and that the team would monitor his condition after he faced game-intensity at-bats.

Before his injured list stint, Ohtani had been struggling offensively, going 6-for-52 and showing clear signs of discomfort. The team had also abandoned hopes of him returning to pitching this season. Friedman acknowledged that Ohtani's injuries had affected his performance, but expressed cautious optimism that the worst of his health issues are behind him and that his current condition will hold through the postseason.
